The House Intelligence Committee has released its controversial memo outlining alleged abuses of secret surveillance by the FBI and Justice Department in the Trump-Russia investigation. Here are some key points:

* The Steele dossier formed an essential part of the intial and all three renewal FISA applications against Carter Page.

* Andrew McCabe confirmed that no FISA warrant would have been sought from the FISA Court without the Steele dossier information.

* The political origins of the Steele dossier were known to senior DOJ and FBI officials, but excluded from the FISA applications.

* DOJ official Bruce Ohr met with Steele beginning in the summer of 2016 and relayed to DOJ information about Steele's bias. Steele told Ohr that he, Steele, was desperate that Donald Trump not get elected president and was passionate about him not becoming president.

The FBI and Justice Department mounted a months-long effort to keep the information outlined in the memo out of the House Intelligence Committee's hands. Only the threat of contempt charges and other forms of pressure forced the FBI and Justice to give up the material.

Once Intelligence Committee leaders and staff compiled some of that information into the memo, the FBI and Justice Department, supported by Capitol Hill Democrats, mounted a ferocious campaign of opposition, saying release of the memo would endanger national security and the rule of law.

But Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes never wavered in his determination to make the information available to the public. President Trump agreed, and, as required by House rules, gave his approval for release.

Finally, the memo released today does not represent the sum total of what House investigators have learned in their review of the FBI and Justice Department Trump-Russia investigation. That means the fight over the memo could be replayed in the future when the Intelligence Committee decides to release more information.

But wasn't this 4 page memo cherrypicked and then altered so why bother reading it in the first place as it to quote several people (including a couple of Republican politicians) and that Nunes admitted he had altered unauthorised and then submitted...Sheesh And he hadn't even read the 60 page report he concocted this 4 page memo from?

What kind of fools are existing the the US that are not highly suspicious of this or are they all ignorant inbred idiots as portrayed to the rest of the first world who are following this farce?

Yes, the few lines there are are highly partisan, critical of the FBI and lauding that idiot Nunes... And not telling us anything we don't know. All it is, is, as Blumenthal said:

Senator Richard Blumenthal: This Is Gutter, Partisan Politics
Senator Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., discusses the potential release of the Nunes memo, the impact of the release and why he says a backlash in the Senate is growing over the possible release. The panel also discusses a new Trump tweet.

Rep. Adam Schiff says GOP "playing partisan politics" with classified Nunes memo
California Rep. Adam Schiff, ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, has led efforts in Congress to block the release of a classified memo written by Rep. Devin Nunes, Republican chairman of the committee. Schiff joins "CBS This Morning" from Fort Lauderdale to discuss why the release would cross a new line and why he thinks it would be a disservice to the Americans.

It is also a desperate attempt at diversion from the Mueller investigation itself. Trying to discredit it in the eyes of the public - but that won't stop Mueller, and at the end of the day (or month or year, the way it's going), the result will be the same. The Trump crowd will be indicted. See:

This Will Be Proven To Be A Misleading Pack Of Lies
Friday could be the release day of a classified memo about intelligence collection in the Russia investigation much to the consternation of the intelligence community. The Morning Joe panel discusses the potential release and why it's a miscalculation.

Comey Blasts ‘Weasels and Liars’ Ahead of Nunes Memo Release

Former FBI Director James Comey on Thursday blasted “weasels and liars” ahead of the likely release of a controversial anti-FBI memo written in part by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the chairman of the House intelligence committee. “All should appreciate the FBI speaking up. I wish more of our leaders would,” Comey wrote on Twitter. “But take heart: American history shows that, in the long run, weasels and liars never hold the field, so long as good people stand up.” The FBI said this week that it opposes the release of the memo, which Democrats say includes cherry-picked information that paints a false narrative. The document purports to detail surveillance abuses on the part of the FBI, and President Donald Trump is expected to approve its release as soon as Friday.

Sen. John McCain On Nunes Memo Release: 'We Are Doing Putin's Job For Him'
Sen. John McCain denounced fellow Republicans who agreed to release a memo on alleged FBI misconduct written by House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes.
Sebastian Murdock•February 2, 2018

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) delivered a harsh rebuke against fellow Republicans who agreed to release a memo by House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes against the wishes of the U.S. intelligence community.

Nunes on Friday released the memo after President Donald Trump declassified it. The memo alleges that officials at the FBI and Department of Justice displayed active bias against the Trump campaign in the early stages of the Russia investigation, which was later taken over by special counsel Robert Mueller.

In a statement shortly before the memo’s release, McCain didn’t pull any punches.

“In 2016, the Russian government engaged in an elaborate plot to interfere in an American election and undermine our democracy,” McCain said. “Russia employed the same tactics it has used to influence elections around the world, from France and Germany to Ukraine, Montenegro and beyond.”

McCain said Russia’s interference has, at best, sown political discord and succeeded in “dividing us from each other.” Attacking the intelligence community is not how to fix the discord, he said.

Ahead of its impending releases, the FBI took the extraordinary step of issuing a public statement to express its “grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo’s accuracy.”

“The latest attacks against the FBI and Department of Justice serve no American interests ― no party’s, no President’s, only Putin’s,” McCain added. “The American people deserve to know all the facts surrounding Russia’s ongoing efforts to subvert our democracy, which is why Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation must proceed unimpeded. Our nation’s elected officials, including the president, must stop looking at this investigation through the lens of politics and manufacturing political sideshows. If we continue to undermine our own rule of law, we are doing Putin’s job for him.”

On Thursday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sent a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan to demand that Nunes be removed from his position.

“Congressman Nunes’ deliberately dishonest actions make him unfit to serve as Chairman, and he must be removed immediately from his position,” she said.
