Tom Brokaw Says Fox News Is 'On A Jihad' To Destroy FBI's Credibility
[HuffPost] Hayley Miller

Veteran broadcaster Tom Brokaw accuses Fox News of waging “a jihad” against the FBI to discredit the investigation into whether President Donald Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia.

During an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Thursday, Brokaw slammed Fox News while addressing Trump’s tweet earlier in the day that praised “Fox & Friends” as “the most influential show in news.”

Quote:
Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Was @foxandfriends just named the most influential show in news? You deserve it - three great people! The many Fake News Hate Shows should study your formula for success!

Trump watches Fox News because it “reinforces what he believes,” Brokaw said, noting, however, that Shepard Smith, a Fox anchor willing to call out the Trump administration, was less biased.

“Fox News ... is on a jihad right now on the whole question about whether there’s fairness about this or not,” Brokaw said, referring to the network’s coverage of the Russia probe. “The whole assault is on the institutions.”

Trump and Fox News have been critical of the ongoing investigation into possible ties between the Russian government and Trump’s associates during the 2016 presidential election. The president and his supporters, including his news channel of choice, have tried to undermine the credibility of the FBI and the Justice Department’s special counsel, Robert Mueller, who’s leading the investigation.

Lawmakers and pundits from both parties expressed admiration for Mueller when he was appointed, applauding his experience and integrity. But as the Russia probe has intensified, Trump, Fox News and some Republican politicians have begun claiming Mueller’s team, as well as the FBI in general, unfairly favor the Democrats.

“At the very top, the Justice Department and the FBI became corrupted,” Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a Fox News contributor, said on the network earlier this month.

Brokaw pointed out Gingrich’s hypocrisy on Thursday.

“Three months earlier, [Gingrich] had said Bob Mueller is one of the great distinguished public servants that we have,” Brokaw said. “So we’re in a war here and it’s going to be sorted out in the final analysis.”

UPDATE: 6:45 p.m. ― A spokeswoman for Fox News requested HuffPost include network contributor Katie Pavlich’s response to Brokaw’s comments. Pavlich tweeted that Fox News wasn’t “suicide bombing the NYC subway, running innocents over with trucks or flying planes into buildings, etc.”

The Fox News spokeswoman did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment about Brokaw’s accusation that the network was attempting to discredit the FBI in an effort to assist Trump.

Oh darling, really !! Politico is quoting what a group of die-hard Trumpists are trying to do. They will grasp any straw, resort to any theory, however far-fetched. Do you really think that the DOJ and the FBI could really do something criminal ? Like the KGB perhaps?

Well, Trump and his gang of thieves and cheats haven't been in power long enough for that. They probably could turn it that way given time. Like Trump trying to get Comey to drop his investigation on Flynn. THAT would have been criminal. But thank goodness we still have the team put in place by honest presidents with an honest administration. Sometimes idiotic presidents but basically honest. Though with the likes of Cheney and Karl Rove that may be borderline. However nothing like what we have now. And it will come out in the wash, if they leave Mueller to do his job unhindered.

That is absolutely right ! The Trumpists are desperate. They're panicking because Mueller is very close to uncovering the whole truth. That there WAS collusion. Only blind ostriches living in outer space can fail to see it. The Trumpists do see it. Hence their desperate attempts at derailing the investigation.

Oh Unmask you are being just as childish as Trump.... The guy has probably had enough of Trumps childish digs at him and wants to protect his family from them and I don’t blame him. He does have two kids and probably trying to protect them from the limelight unlike Trump with poor Barron who I bet is embarrassed by his fathers childish behaviour towards just about everyone....

Trump on FBI deputy director's reported retirement
The president reacts to reports about the retirement of FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe by retweeting falsehoods about McCabe's wife.
'Phony Hillary Clinton' »

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump is reacting to reports about the retirement of FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe by retweeting falsehoods about McCabe's wife.

Trump tweeted Saturday: "How can FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, the man in charge, along with leakin' James Comey, of the Phony Hillary Clinton investigation (including her 33,000 illegally deleted emails) be given $700,000 for wife's campaign by Clinton Puppets during investigation?"

McCabe's wife, Jill, did not get $700,000 in donations from Clinton for a Virginia state Senate race in 2015.

The donations came from Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe's political action committee and the Virginia Democratic Party before McCabe was promoted to deputy director and a supervisory role in the Clinton email investigation.

McCabe became acting FBI director in May after Trump fired James Comey.

Hah, spreading fake news as usual. So what else is new?

Inkling, Barron is too young to understand any of this. Ignorance is bliss. Let him enjoy it as long as he can. On the other hand poor Melania looks like she wishes she were thousands of miles away from Trump.

Comey: FBI Officials Under Attack for ‘Partisan Gain’
The former FBI director defends the agency’s top lawyer amid reports he’s been reassigned.

Former FBI director James Comey has accused the agency’s current leadership of breaking under political pressure with its recent reassignment of the top FBI lawyer. “Sadly, we are now at a point in our political life when anyone can be attacked for partisan gain,” Comey wrote on Twitter late Friday. “James Baker, who is stepping down as FBI General Counsel, served our country incredibly well for 25 years & deserves better,” he wrote. Comey’s comments, which come shortly after President Trump assailed the FBI for supposedly being “tainted,” appear to be in response to reports earlier this week that Baker is being “reassigned” following several political controversies at the agency. Baker was reportedly recently caught up in an internal investigation into leaks on surveillance methods. He is also reportedly under scrutiny by House Republicans for allegedly being in contact with a Mother Jones reporter shortly before the outlet broke the story of a disputed dossier revealing purported ties between Trump and the Kremlin.

Andrew McCabe is receiving grief for not recusing himself from the investigation of Hillary's private email server after Jill McCabe (a pediatrician and candidate for the Virginia Senate) received $700,000 from Terry McAuliffe's campaign fund surplus ( a legal transfer) and the Democratic National Committee.

Given Terry's extremely close relationship with Hillary (those not political junkies in the USA are forgiven for not knowing this) he should have turned the job over to others. (There are thousands of agents in the FBI, someone else would be available). Or, his wife should have refused the funds.

Remember, an FBI agent is to avoid the appearance of conflict of interest. Of course McCabe knew this rule.

The $700,000 added to Jill's campaign fund gave her a total of $1,668,000 to use for the election.
Her opponent had about half of that, but was the incumbent. In other words, the Terry McAuliffe money was extremely significant. (I got figures from Virginia's government records)

Andrew McCabe's wife was cleared to run for office by the FBI as per internal regulations.

If you have heard that Virginia allows candidates to keep surplus funds after an election, that is not true. Funds can go to other candidates, charities, or the political party of choice. (Plainly stated in Virginia laws)

Anyway, McCabe is out............ Smile

So there's investigations all over trying to find out where there are leaks.

James Baker has been re-assigned as a result, a big deal as he was heading up the FBI's General Counsel's Office... (meaning he was the top lawyer in the FBI)

This is not a political controversy, this is a legal controversy where there can be a trial, convictions, and prison time.

Stay tuned.... Razz
