One victim of our crash is the thread on the death of Johnny Hallyday. It had almost reached two pages, we French all came in with our memories of him... We posted articles on him, tributes, pictures and videos of his best songs. Now it's all gone. Mad

I hadn't yet posted these photos, though. The Eiffel Tower lit up with "Merci Johnny"

Here they are:

http://www.avenueviet.com/forums/album_page.php?pic_id=1800

and

I can't find the thread where we had the link to post pictures from the album online!!!

ETA - Thank You, Wildflower!

Oh our faraway youth!

This is my favorite of Johnny's songs - He was a good cowboy - and young and handsome and full of life!

Pour moi la vie va commencer

Note: I posted this before but for some weird reason, my post didn't show, though my name as last poster did. Reposting it to see what happens now.

Murat, I don't understand that thing about posting pics from the Gallery either... I do know however that the frame has set dimensions, so if your pic is small/short, it leaves a blank space under it. Very annoying...

Anyway, back to Johnny. Here's one of his greatest hits, "Retiens la nuit" - A beautiful love song, written, I believe by either Aznavour or Trenet, can't remember, one of the Charles anyway.

Here is a young Johnny with an equally very young Catherine Deneuve:

Ah, our faraway youth!!!

This is appropriate: Souvenirs, Souvenirs

Yes, Cowboy, the site is behaving very strangely since the crash. Murat posted 2 pics, but only one appears, your first response disappears too...

Lots of posts vanished, but everybody still has the same number of posts while we should have hundreds less. So I guess your posts and those others are somewhere in cyberspace, in the site's memory but don't show.

I don't understand it at all... But most of the time it works, so let's be grateful for that. Very Happy

I posted at least a half dozen messages on this thread before the crash. Murat and I had long exchanges, reminiscing about old times when we were still at school, and ran home to listen to "Salut les copains" on the radio - We didn't have a tv at home. Johnny was my idol - well, "L'idole des jeunes" (I hadn't realized then that that hit of Johnny's was a translation of Ricky Nelson's "Teenage Idol")

This video actually made me cry. Crying or Very sad

He was a great singer and performer! But his success seems to have been limited to France and French-speaking countries. He never made it big in the US. Somehow Americans knew more about Françoise Hardy in the same generation, or Yves Montand among the older singers/performers/actors. Sad
