How Trump’s love of Twitter translates abroad
President Donald Trump uses Twitter to speak directly to the American people. How is this mode of communication heard in foreign nations? Former ambassador Nancy McEldowney, who is now at Georgetown University, and Kenneth Weinstein, president and CEO of the Hudson Institute think tank, lend their perspectives.

'This is dangerous': Trump's North Korea tweet alarms Democratic lawmakers
Dylan Stableford, Senior Editor, Yahoo News

Members of Congress returning to Washington were quick to condemn President Trump’s Tuesday-night tweet taunting North Korea’s Kim Jong Un about the sizes of their so-called nuclear buttons.

“North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the ‘Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times,’” Trump wrote. “Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!”

Democratic lawmakers tore into Trump for casually invoking the specter of a nuclear war. Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., wrote on Twitter that the tweet “borders on presidential malpractice.”

“I guess the president regards this as a show of strength,” Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., said on CNN. “But as everybody who’s ever been in a, you know, first-grade playground recognizes, it’s usually the person who’s most aggressively pounding their chest that is in fact the weak one on the playground.”

Meanwhile, some national security experts worried aloud about Trump’s state of mind.

Peter Wehner, a senior fellow at Washington’s Ethics & Public Policy Center and veteran of three Republican presidential administrations, said Trump’s recent behavior is “more evidence we’re watching an American president psychologically, emotionally and cognitively decompose.”

Others wondered whether the provocative tweet violated Twitter’s terms of service. Dan Scavino, the White House social media director, mocked the concern.

To the president’s core supporters, the “nuclear button” tweet was just Trump being Trump. And to Michael Flynn Jr., who served on Trump’s transition team and is the son of former national security adviser Michael Flynn, it was “why Trump was elected.”

Trump should select videos that can't be challenged for accuracy

The point is that he shouldn't post any of those videos at all. It's inciting hatred against Muslims - a big part of whom are perfectly good citizens.

Even Trump finally realized it.

OH, THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING [/SARC]
Trump ‘Would Apologize’ for Retweeting Anti-Muslim Videos

In his first international television interview, President Trump says he is ready to apologize for retweeting anti-Muslim videos posted by the far-right Britain First group in late November. Trump’s retweet of three propaganda videos by the group prompted condemnation among British lawmakers at the time, with members of Parliament calling the move “fascist,” “stupid,” and “spreading evil.” Nearly two months later, in an interview with TV host Piers Morgan to be aired Sunday, Trump claimed not to know whose posts he was retweeting. “If you are telling me they’re horrible people, horrible, racist people, I would certainly apologize if you’d like me to do that,” Trump was quoted as saying Friday in a teaser of the interview tweeted by Morgan.

Donald Trump tells ITV he 'would apologise' for re-tweeting Britain First

Donald Trump has told ITV that he would apologise for re-tweeting Britain First - and insisted he is not a racist.

The US president told Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan that he knew "nothing" about the organisation and was driven by his belief in fighting radical Islamic terror.

In extracts from his first interview with an international broadcaster - to be shown in full on ITV on Sunday night - Mr Trump also:
insisted he has a "very good relationship" with Theresa May
said "a lot of people" in the UK "like what I stand for"
dismissed his critics, saying he "doesn't care" what they think of him

Mr Trump caused outrage in Britain when he posted the three tweets last November, prompting Prime Minister Theresa May to say he was "wrong" to have done so.

Mr Trump told ITV that he did not mean to endorse "horrible, racist people" and that the re-tweet had not been a big story in the US.

But pressed for an apology by Morgan, he said: "I don't want to cause any difficulty for your country.

"If you are telling me they're horrible people, horrible, racist people, I would certainly apologise if you'd like me to do that."

Trump Spent His Sunday Night Watching ‘60 Minutes’ And Hate-Tweeting About Oprah
Ed Mazza, HuffPost•February 19, 2018

President Donald Trump capped a long weekend of hate-tweeting by taunting an “insecure” Oprah Winfrey over her latest appearance on “60 Minutes.”

And he practically dared her to run for president.

Winfrey first appeared on the CBS news program last autumn to talk politics with a group of Michigan voters. On Sunday, she revisited the group to continue the discussion.

Trump was apparently watching ― and fuming. He stewed over what he called “biased” questions, tweeting:

Quote:
@realDonaldTrump
Just watched a very insecure Oprah Winfrey, who at one point I knew very well, interview a panel of people on 60 Minutes. The questions were biased and slanted, the facts incorrect. Hope Oprah runs so she can be exposed and defeated just like all of the others!

Winfrey was mentioned as a potential 2020 candidate last month after a show-stopping speech at the Golden Globe Awards. However, she previously said that she didn’t intend to run for president.

“I don’t have the DNA for it,” Winfrey told InStyle last year. “That’s not for me.”

Winfrey appeared to reaffirm that sentiment last week.

“Because if God actually wanted me to run, wouldn’t God kind of tell me?” she said on “60 Minutes Overtime.” “And I haven’t heard that.”
