Music Cowboy, cowboy marry me
I'll bake you a cherry pie
Well thank you very kindly mam
But I'm too young to die dead

Music Hi-lo-do-si-dosy-do
Stay single and save a dollar
Come Saturday night I'll court a pretty girl
With a cane and a high starched collar

Music Cowboy if you'll marry me
I'll be your darling Jenny
Now why should I drink from just one well
When I can drink from twen'y

Music Hi-lo-do-si-dosy-do
Stay single and save a dollar
Come Saturday night I'll court a pretty girl
With a cane and a high starched collar

Music Cowboy, cowboy name the day
July 'd be nice I reckon
Gladly meet you at the church
July the 32nd

Music Hi-lo-do-si-dosy-do
Stay single and save a dollar
Come Saturday night I'll court a pretty girl
With a cane and a high starched collar

Music You sleep all day and spoon all night
And eat your favorite chow
Then why should I get married mam
That's what I'm doing now

Music Hi-lo-do-si-dosy-do
Stay single and save a dollar
Come Saturday night I'll court a pretty girl
With a cane and a high starched collar

Music I asked my love to take a walk
To take a walk, just a little walk
Down beside where the water flows
Down by the banks of the Ohio

(chorus)
Music And only say that you'll be mine
In no other's arms entwined
Down beside where the waters flow
On by the banks of the Ohio

Music
I asked my love to take a walk
Just a little ways with me
And as we walked and we would talk
All about our wedding day

(chorus)

Music I asked her if she'd marry me
And my wife forever be
She only turned her head away
And had no other words to say Crying or Very sad

(chorus)

Music I plunged a knife into her breast
As into my arms she pressed
She cried "Oh Willy, don't you murder me
I'm not prepared for eternity."

Music I took her by her golden curls
I drug her down to the river-side
An I there threw her into drown
And I watched her as she floated down

(chorus)

Music And going home between twelve and one
I cried "Lord, what have I've done?"
I've killed the only girl I love
Because she would not be my bride

(chorus)

Artist/Band: Laine Frankie
Lyrics for Song: High Noon (Do Not Forsake Me)
Lyrics for Album: The Best of Frankie Laine

Music Do not forsake me, oh, my darlin', Hearts
On this, our wedding day.
Do not forsake me, oh, my darlin',
Wait; wait along.
I do not know what fate awaits me.
I only know I must be brave.
For I must face a man who hates me,
Or lie a coward, a craven coward;
Or lie a coward in my grave.

Oh, to be torn 'twixt love an' duty.
S'posin' I lose my fair-haired beauty.
Look at that big hand move along,
Nearing high noon.

He made a vow while in state prison:
Vowed it would be my life for his an',
I'm not afraid of death but, oh, what shall I do,
If you leave me? confused

Do not forsake me, oh, my darlin':
You made that promise as a bride.
Do not forsake me, oh, my darlin'.
Although you're grievin', don't think of leavin',
Now that I need you by my side.

Wait along, (Wait along.)
Wait along.
Wait along. (Wait along, wait along, wait along, wait along.) Music

Hello ! Long time no see ! Smile Hearts

I run into this subject by chance. I remember a small cowboy song I loved, but now forget all the lyrics. That begins something like this:

“ Oh burry me not
On a lonely land
Where the wild coyote
Will howl over me … ”

Does anyone remember ?

Welcome back, Ylang-Ylang!

The song is "Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie". Here's the link to the Wikipedia entry:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bury_Me_Not_on_the_Lone_Prairie

"O bury me not on the lone prairie."
These words came low and mournfully
From the pallid lips of the youth who lay
On his dying bed at the close of day.

He had wasted and pined 'til o'er his brow
Death's shades were slowly gathering now
He thought of home and loved ones nigh,
As the cowboys gathered to see him die.

"O bury me not on the lone prairie
Where coyotes howl and the wind blows free
In a narrow grave just six by three—
O bury me not on the lone prairie"

"It matters not, I've been told,
Where the body lies when the heart grows cold
Yet grant, o grant, this wish to me
O bury me not on the lone prairie."

"I've always wished to be laid when I died
In a little churchyard on the green hillside
By my father's grave, there let me be,
O bury me not on the lone prairie."

"I wish to lie where a mother's prayer
And a sister's tear will mingle there.
Where friends can come and weep o'er me.
O bury me not on the lone prairie."

"For there's another whose tears will shed.
For the one who lies in a prairie bed.
It breaks me heart to think of her now,
She has curled these locks, she has kissed this brow."

"O bury me not..." And his voice failed there.
But they took no heed to his dying prayer.
In a narrow grave, just six by three
They buried him there on the lone prairie.

And the cowboys now as they roam the plain,
For they marked the spot where his bones were lain,
Fling a handful o' roses o'er his grave
With a prayer to God his soul to save.

And here are the verses that you remember:

One version collected for publication by the Southern Pacific Company in 1912 omits the final verse and concludes with another round of the chorus, which is there rendered:

O bury me not on the lone prairie
Where the wild coyote will howl o'er me
Where the rattlesnakes hiss and the wind blows free
O bury me not on the lone prairie

Gosh, this thread was started in 2005!!! Mat Hi Cuoi and Le Saigonnais were still around and active! And Guests could still post without registering! Ah, those were the days!

© Bruce Carter

I crawled across the northern border
To send you a better world
I work so hard in the fields
Because I love my little girl
The sun is a difficult partner
The nights deal a cold hand
I have to keep my head down
To survive in a troubled land Music

I miss my Sonora Sunshine
You are always in my heart
I will try to return my child
To give our lives a brand new start
I didn't want to leave your life
Or cause so many tears
But we have to look to the future
And set aside all our fears Music

It was not easy going north
To travel far from you
To give up your hugs and kisses
That's not something I wanted to do
Now I can't take you to school
Missing your birthdays breaks my heart
The simple things have all gone missing
Pulling our lives all apart Music Music

I miss my Sonora Sunshine
You are always in my heart
I will try to return my child
To give our lives a brand new start
I didn't want to leave your life,
Or cause so many tears
But we have to look to the future
And set aside all our fears Music

I wish that mommy didn't go
And was still with us in our world
But I thank The Lord above
That she left you, my little girl
So be brave, Sonora Sunshine
To your Daddy blow a kiss
Please understand that I love you
That it's you I surely miss Music

I miss my Sonora Sunshine
You are always in my heart
Crying or Very sad

Nice song, UnMask, but I wouldn't call a Mexican seasonal worker a "cowboy", or "Sonora Sunshine" a cowboy song. Neutral

Besides, it's already been posted in the Minstrels' Gallery. super grin

See http://www.avenueviet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4417

We like your songs, but they don't need to be double-posted. bleh
