4. Whiskey Galore by Compton Mackenzie - set in the outer Hebrides Islands in Scotland.

Very hilarious book indeed and was made into a hilarious film two years later.

Later made into a haunting film called The Secret of Roan Inish and island off the coast of Ireland.
