Admin Edit: These posts have been split from the Ca-Dao Tuc-Ngữ thread as this is a different kind of poetry altogether. Plus, it's being - for the moment - played in English. Very Happy

This [referring to the funny verses posted in the Ca-Dao Tuc-Ngữ thread] was very entertaining. Very Happy

Can anyone quote some "ha't d-ô'i" or "tho* d-ô'i" that peasant young men and women sing or speak to each other as a form of verbal flirting? I used to know some, but I've forgotten it all. Sad

For the Mid-Autumn Festival Night we could have a contest here, if there's enough men and women playing. We can even do it in English if we want to.

Like:
Pretty girl, come watch the silvery moon with me
You'll have a most wonderful time, you will, you'll see

Silly boy, why would I watch the silvery moon with thee
When my wonderful man is waiting for me there under the willow tree?

OK, so it's not following the "ha't d-ô'i" rules, I don't have the same number of meters (syllables) in the back-and-forth, but you get the idea.

You can make up verses in Vietnamese or in English as you wish. Who wants to play?

Pretty but silly girl, you won't know what you're missing
Until tomorrow you see the girl I'll have been kissing

So it's in the hay you want to roll?
Well I wouldn't touch you with a ten foot pole.

My first attempt and wasn't sure how to get up previous quotes from you so hope this works and that I've played the game correctly. super grin

You got it, Julie! ten clap

In theory, though, you're supposed to respond to the two lines just above you, so it has to alternate boy/girl/ boy/girl. However, since we have less boys than girls playing, this is good! Thanks for trying and getting it right. Very Happy

ETA - To get the previous quote, you just click on "quote", and zap the previous two lines. Like we do in the "Next Line" game. But the way you did it is fine. Very Happy

Welcome to the game, Inkling. You're doing real great for your first try, truly. ten

Touch me with a ten-foot-pole, maybe not
Much too far for you to... hit the spot! bleh

Yeah, it's a bit "risqué", but then those exchanges very often are, full of sexual innuendoes. It's OK as long as it's tasteful. wink
