Hello everyone - as we've mentioned before, we've been deluged with spam would-be members (mostly porn or pharmaceutical, with a few other telemarketers thrown in). They come back almost as fast as we zap them. Banning their e-mail addresses doesn't work, they just open another account. Banning their websites helps, but they find a way around that too.

So now we're banning their IPs when we can get them. Of course they can change IPs but that will take more work, and they'll run out of places to turn to sooner or later.

The point of this message is, if by mistake we ban one of you genuine members, we apologize in advance. If that's the case, that you want to log in and can't, just send us an e-mail at Administrator@AvenueViet.com, AvenueViet@AvenueViet.com, or AvenueViet@yahoo.com, give us your username. We'll look up your IP and unban it. Thanks for your understanding. Smile

Since we don't check those addresses on a regular basis, if you're a genuine member you know my personal e-mail address. So if you're banned by mistake, and an e-mail to the 3 addresses listed above gets you no result, send an e-mail to my personal address. I'm not giving it here, or the spammers would flood me, but most of you have it.

P.S. Those of you from Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter) site, you can also send me an "owl" on CoS. My username over there is FleurduJardin.

So I repeat: if one of you genuine members can't log in because we've banned your IP, please write to one of the 4 above addresses, two on AvenueViet dot com and two (including mine) at Yahoo dot com.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but we have to fight fire with fire, and the spams are really bad. If we had let it go on, we'd have more spam members advertising their wares than we have genuine members trying to have a discussion. Rolling Eyes

If you're a genuine member or genuine potential member and find you've been banned, e-mail us.

We have so much spam, we sometimes ban anyone we find on-line who doesn't seem to belong. If we make a mistake, we apologize in advance. Please e-mail us if that happens.

We've banned suspicious IPs right and left these past months. So, once again, if you try to log in but get "You've been banned from this site" message, e-mail one of us - You have the three AvenueViet addresses above, but the surest way to get a prompt is to use our personal addresses (X's, Mat Hi Cuoi's or mine), which most of you know. Very Happy

This message is as effective as leaving a note on a table inside the house telling somebody where you hide the house key if they happen to come home and get locked out.
super grin

Not if you read it BEFORE you get locked out. The very first message was posted in August 2007, BEFORE the bans were slapped on. If you'd read it then (like, last time you posted successfully - and you have, about 3 weeks ago, the message was already there), you'd have known what to do. Rolling Eyes

Moreover, the IP you just posted from had "No Host Name Configured", which sounds terribly suspicious. shifty We tend to ban suspicious IPs. We've got much too much spams. But now I think we've found a solution to that. Very Happy

So.... why don't you "Walk into my Parlor"? wink

If I'm as sensible as you think I am you wouldn't find me in here! wink

"No Host Name Configured" ? I don't even know what that means. See, you confuse the heck out of me. You don't know how to add more smilies even with directions provided, yet you know what the above phrase means. uhh! OK, tell me how is that suspicious? wonder

Smilies: I misplaced the instructions. Embarassed Plus, even if I found them and managed to follow them, it takes an awful amount of time! bleh

Checking IPs, I work this way: I click on the IP and check it on the Network Tools. It tells me where the IP is from (which country) and it tells me the host name, which I take to mean the ISP (AOL, sbcglobal, Road Runner, Wanadoo, name of the company the person is posting from, etc.) When it says "No Host Name Configured", I take it to mean (I'm probably wrong but there's no one I can ask) that the person must be using some under-the-cloak server or ISP and that to me is suspicious. Neutral

I see what you mean, but wouldn't a cloak be something that wouldn't raise suspicion, like AOL, SBC? I mean, it's no cloak if it says I have no "host name" to hide under and i'm suspicious!
