This is my favorite aria!

Since it is your favorite aria, here it is, by Maria Callas, in her full glory. Very Happy

Oops - The video has been blocked for Copyright reasons. This is another rendition by Maria Callas, this time in Hambourg instead of London.

Just a quick note before I go to bed as it is now after 4.00am here on Friday... I think the director and cast would have been much more effective with a protest by not changing the end of a much loved opera but dedicating the performances to victims of violence - domestic or otherwise and this should apply to both sexes....

The (sold out) performance of the modified opera was booed by the audience at the premiere in Florence.

Apparently, Carmen's gun misfired, so nobody died. LOL

How right they were!

I liked this comment:

Quote:
So Carmen killed Don José. Alexander the Great was black. Jesus was gay and had three daughters. The Ministry of Truth is going full swing.

Also in the article:

Quote:
Cultural masterpieces sacrificed on the altar of demagoguery and political correctness [...] Should we then, by analogy, keep Ophelia from drowning, Juliet from taking her own life, Anna Karenina from throwing herself under the train, Violetta to let herself die? Those embarrassing initiatives show how little the Democratic Party had done to help women in real life. Let it do so, and leave the world cultural masterpieces untouched.

The skating starts at about 1'40" into the clip. Stéphane Lambiel makes a good job of it.

Did that really happen at that performance? I'm kinda lost...

Anyway, that's a crummy idea, changing the ending of a classic like that. one

These days, people take Political Correctness way beyond the pale. It's becoming laughable. I'm not sure it even helps the Feminist cause, because people just roll their eyes and shrug it off... The real message gets lost in the controversy and the laughter.

Agreement completely.

I absolutely hate it when they change anything in a movie, either in a remake of an old classic, or from book to movie. Especially for Political Correctness reasons. very upset

That's too much of a rational and good idea for it to have occured to the powers that be. super grin Sad
